Size
The single biggest driver. A compact 25 m² cabin and a 120 m² family A-Frame are different economies — structure, glazing, services and finishes all scale with floor area and, in A-Frames, with height.
Costs, Honestly
The honest answer to 'what does an A-Frame cost?' is that it depends — on size, structure, glazing, finishes and site. Instead of blanket prices, here are the real cost drivers we work through with every client before putting a figure on a project.

The single biggest driver. A compact 25 m² cabin and a 120 m² family A-Frame are different economies — structure, glazing, services and finishes all scale with floor area and, in A-Frames, with height.
02
Timber, steel and hybrid systems differ in material cost, speed and maintenance. Engineered structural design is not optional in any of them — it is a core cost, and worth every shilling.
03
The roof is most of the building envelope, so sheeting choice, insulation and rainwater goods (gutters, downpipes, storage) show up clearly in the budget.
04
The signature glass gable is also one of the largest line items. Its size, glass specification and framing system can move the budget more than any other single decision.
05
Determined by soil conditions and site slope. A soil investigation is a small cost that prevents large surprises — foundations designed on facts beat foundations designed on hope.
06
Slope, access, vegetation clearing and drainage all add real cost. Gentle slopes can reduce excavation; difficult access can raise delivery costs on every material.
07
The range is enormous — from hard-wearing basics to premium timber, stone and custom joinery. Finishes are where most budgets flex, and we quote them transparently so you can choose with your eyes open.
08
Plumbing, electrical, water heating, water storage and solar provision. Remote sites often need more self-sufficiency, which is an investment in independence rather than a complication.
09
A deck multiplies the usable space of an A-Frame and anchors it to the site — a timber deck is one of the highest-value additions, but it is a real cost item of its own.
10
Where in Kenya you build changes transport of materials, labour logistics and supervision. Nearby towns are efficient; far-flung sites are entirely buildable — just budgeted honestly.
11
Angled walls make furniture choices matter more than usual. Crafty KE can furnish and fit out the finished structure — planned early, it costs less than fixing it later.
We are preparing indicative cost ranges based on our own projects and designs — real builds at real Kenyan prices, updated as the collection grows. We will publish them here once they meet our standard for honesty: accurate enough to plan with.

Request an Estimate in the MeantimeWe deliberately avoid blanket per-metre figures — they mislead more than they help, because the drivers above vary so widely. Tell us your intended size, use and location and we will prepare an honest, itemised estimate.
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. The envelope is fast to close, but glazing, engineering and finishes can offset that advantage. The honest answer depends on your design and site — which is what our estimates are for.
Right-size the design, standardise the glazing, keep services simple, build the deck later if needed, and never skip engineering and soil investigation. Cost saved on corners is paid back with interest.
