The Form
What is an A-Frame structure?
An A-Frame is a building whose steeply pitched roof runs from a ridge at the top down towards the foundations at each side, forming a triangle in cross-section. Often built in timber, steel or a hybrid of both, the roof is the defining feature — it is both the wall and the roof at once.
The gable end is usually dominated by glass, which turns the interior into a bright, open space that looks out at the landscape. A sleeping loft under the ridge is a common and practical addition.

The triangular silhouette is instantly recognisable and photographs beautifully — valuable for a family holiday home and especially for hospitality.
Compact footprint
The structure rises from a relatively small base, making A-Frames work well on modest plots or as multiple units on one property.

Timber is the classic A-Frame material and works beautifully in Kenya with correct treatment against termites and weather. Steel suits longer spans and slender profiles; hybrid systems balance cost, span and aesthetics. The right answer depends on your design — and always includes proper structural engineering.
Large glazing & roofing
The glazed gable is the signature — and a real design task. Orientation, shading, glass specification and safety all matter, and tall glazing must be engineered, not guessed. Steep roofs work well with profiled and stone-coated sheet systems, with gutters and rainwater handling planned from the start.
Site & climate suitability
Wind exposure, slope, soil and access can make or break an A-Frame project. Gentle slopes can work in the building's favour; exposed ridgelines and difficult soils need care. Suitability is a professional assessment, not a brochure claim — we make it during your consultation.

Is an A-Frame cheaper to build than a conventional house?
It depends, and we say so plainly. The envelope can be fast to erect, but large glazing, engineering for tall structures and quality finishes can offset that. We give an honest, itemised estimate based on your actual design and site rather than a blanket claim.
Are A-Frames suitable everywhere in Kenya?
No structure suits every site. Slope, soil, wind exposure and access all affect suitability. That is why our process starts with a site-informed conversation before any design work.
Do A-Frames need structural engineering?
Yes. The wide spans, tall glazing and large roof planes require proper structural design — timber, steel or hybrid. We never treat an A-Frame as a no-engineering project.
